The 10 Most Common ChatGPT Prompts

What I love most about the ChatGPT community is discovering the weird and wonderful ways in which you can wield this immensely powerful tool.

I was stuck in my own little bubble, using AI to help me with little projects here and there. But it turns out ChatGPT can level-up every aspect of our lives!

Take a good look at how the masses are using this remarkable chatbot. Sure, some uses stem from laziness, but I can also see a few opportunistic prompts that could literally transform people’s lives.

Have a read of the most common ChatGPT prompts in the world and think hard about how they could be utilized in your own life.

1. Math prompts

“Help me with my math homework”

Reflecting the huge uptake of ChatGPT among young people, millions are using it to assist with their schoolwork.

The chatbot is particularly good at explaining and summarizing complex topics in a range of academic subjects. Ironically, math is one of the few areas where ChatGPT really struggles, so it’s interesting that math-based prompts are so popular.

It can do basic arithmetic most of the time. But let’s just say your high school math teacher isn’t going to lose their job to AI anytime soon.

2. Writing prompts

“Write a short story about a woman who is kidnapped on her wedding day”

A hell of a lot of people rely on ChatGPT for storytelling. I think this is fine if you’re after some bespoke reading material, but if you’re a creative writer publishing 100% AI-written stories then you may be in the wrong field…

Thankfully, many users in the creative writing space appear to use assistive prompts such as ideas for characters, plots, settings, or themes, as well as to provide feedback on existing drafts and suggest improvements in grammar, style, or structure.

As you continue reading through this list, I hope it dawns on you that this AI tool works best when it assists humans, not replace them.

3. Recommendation Prompts

“Recommend a rom-com for a single male in their 30s”

By feeding the chatbot information about your interests, disinterests, even your biology, it can make tailored recommendations for movies, books, music, travel – the list is endless.

The much bigger point is, you can do this on behalf of other people too. So you can utilize ChatGPT to form closer bonds, whether it’s with a crush or a colleague or perhaps even your enemies.

4. Career advice prompts

“Advise me on professional certificates in accounting”

Personal and professional development advice is also a really common ChatGPT prompt.

Millions of people happily put their fate in ChatGPT’s hands as they ask for guidance on career paths, how to build a case for promotion, what qualifications are worth pursuing etc.

The web is obviously filled with this kind of information, but where ChatGPT has an advantage is it can respond, and more importantly, it responds in real time, which is why more and more job seekers use this tool for mock interviews.

5. Coding prompts

“Generate HTML code for a simple dropshipping website”

ChatGPT’s ability to generate code is, in my opinion, the most exciting capability of them all, especially if you are someone with an entrepreneurial mindset.

Have an idea for a web tool but can’t code to save your life? Not a problem. ChatGPT will build it for you. It’s no surprise this chatbot has excellent coding skills when you realize that it functions on some of the most sophisticated programming ever known.

Not only can ChatGPT make your web tool, it can power it too. Let’s use a movie recommendation site as an example:

ChatGPT will make the website, write the content, and take care of the SEO. Then you can integrate it with the ChatGPT API, which will handle all the user queries and offer personalized recommendations.

With the API, visitors unknowingly interact with ChatGPT through your website/app, if that makes sense? This opens up so many business opportunities!

6. Language learning prompts

“What’s the difference between a diagram and a picture?”

I had guessed that language learning would be a very popular ChatGPT prompt. What I didn’t expect was that users mostly enquire about their native language. Maybe foreign language learning is another weak area for the tool?

Indeed, the masses are flocking to ChatGPT for help with definitions, grammatical rules, linguistic nuances and so much more. I frequently use the tool for capitalizing my blog post titles.

Yes, you can look this stuff up on the world wide web and hope to find examples that relate to your specific query, but why do that when you can show ChatGPT your writing and it will tell you exactly what you are doing right/wrong?

7. Image generation prompts

“Create an image of a horse running on a beach”

Thanks to DALL-E, a text-to-image model, millions of users are prompting ChatGPT to make artistic images.

Artistic being the operative word, because anyone can spot an AI-generated image a mile off. I’ve talked before about how AI images are bad for SEO, so it’s safe to say this isn’t an aspect of AI that I’m overly enthusiastic about – at least from the perspective of a blogger.

However, I am very impressed with the fact that ChatGPT will accommodate visual learners by including visual elements in its responses such as diagrams, charts, or simple illustrations.

It’s also perfectly suited to more trivial purposes like making memes or wallpaper for your phone, avatars for your social media profiles, or just for the sheer fun of creating random art.

8. Fitness prompts

“Make me a fitness routine for losing weight at home”

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know where to begin in your fitness journey. Nor does it matter if you don’t know where it ends. Because ChatGPT has all the answers.

Vast quantities of people have hired this chatbot as their personal fitness coach – a fitness coach that has encyclopedic knowledge on workout plans and nutritional guidance, and to top it off, you can submit data and receive valuable insights about your progress.

I think the analysis side of things, helping users make data-driven decisions, is one of AI’s biggest selling points in the health and fitness space.

9. Conversational prompts

“Hi ChatGPT, how was your day?”

This one melts my heart. A large number of users use ChatGPT for conversation and companionship.

Although the tool is quick to distance itself from matters relating to emotional support and mental health (it will point you to human professionals), you can still engage in fairly meaningful, light-hearted chats.

10. Product comparison prompts

“Should I buy an electric car or a hybrid?”

So, we’ve established that users trust ChatGPT with their career path, health AND their money!

Yep, buying decisions (for big ticket items and small) form the basis of one of the most popular ChatGPT prompts. As a blogger, I wonder if people are sick and tired of reading buying guides online whereby the author has a clear bias or a financial incentive to push certain products.

ChatGPT does not have personal opinions or financial interests – that’s why it’s a trusted source of information when it comes to buying decisions.
